Usurae Poguthey - Ravanan

Intha Bhoomiyila Eppa Vanthu Nee Porantha
En Buthikula Theeporiya Nee Vethacha
Adi Thaeku Mara kaadu Perusuthaan
Chinna Theekuchi Osaram Sirusuthaan
[You planted a spark in my mind
the moment you were born on this earth
The teak wood forest is huge and
the size of the match stick is small]

Adi Thaeku Mara Kaadu Perusuthaan
Chinna Theekuchi Osaram Sirusuthaan
Oru Theekuchi Vizhunthu Pudikuthadi
Karunthaekumara Kaadu Vedikuthadi
[The teak wood forest is huge and
the size of the match stick is small
The match stick falls on the ground and ignite
And the teak wood forest bursts into flames]

Oosurae Poguthey Oosurae Poguthey
Odatha Nee Kondam Suzhikayila
Oooo Maaman Thavikiraen, Madipicha Kaekaraen
Manasathaadi En Manikuyilae
Akkarai Cheemaiyil Nee Irunthum
Aiviral Theenditha Nenaikuthadi
Agini Pazhamunu Therinjirunthum
Adikadi Naaku Thudikuthadi
[It’s kills me when I see you squeeze your lips
Oh dear, I’m begging you to give me your heart
Even though you are on the other side of the shore
My fingers yearn to touch you
My tongue yearns to taste it even when it
knows its a ball of fire]

Odambum Manasum Thooram Thooram
Otta Ninaika Aagala
Manasu Sollum Nalla Solla
Maaya Odambu Kaekala
Thaviya.. Thavichu..
Osur Thadam Kettu Thiriyudadi
Thayilanguruvi Enna Thalli Ninnu Sirukudadi..
Intha Mammutha Kiruku Theeruma
Adi Manthirichu Vitta Kozhi Maaruma
En Mayakatha Theethuvechu Manichudumaa..
Santhiranum Sooriyanum Suthi Orae Koatil Varuguthey
Sathiyamum Paththiyamum Ippa Thalaisuthi Kidakuthey
[My body and my heart are far apart and they don’t want to re-unite
My heart says the right things, which my body doesn’t want to obey
My life roams around in pain
and a bird laughs at me from a distance
Will this craziness ever go away
Will the spell you cast on me ever go away
Will my heart make the trance go away
The sun and moon are coming together in a single line
Will the truth and reality (?) have gone haywire]

Oosurae Poguthey Oosurae Poguthey
Odatha Nee Kondam Suzhikayila
Oooo Maaman Thavikiraen, Madipicha Kaekaraen
Manasathaadi En Manikuyilae
Akkarai Cheemaiyil Nee Irunthum
Aiviral Theenditha Nenaikuthadi
Agini Pazhamunu Therinjirunthum
Adikadi Naaku Thudikuthadi
[It’s kills me when I see you squeeze your lips
Oh dear, I’m begging you to give me your heart
Even though you are on the other side of the shore
My fingers yearn to touch you
My tongue yearns to taste it even when it
knows its a ball of fire]

Intha Olagathil Ithu Onnum Puthusulla
Onnu Rendu Thappi Pogum Ozhukathula
vithi solli vazhi pottaan manusa pulla
vithivillakku illaatha vithiyum illa
[A few of them crossing the line (misbehaving)
is not uncommon in this earth
Man created rules based on fate
There are no rules without an exception]

etta irukkum sooriyan paathu mottu virikkuthu thaamaara
thottu vidatha thooram irunthum sontha banthamum pogala
paambaa vizhutha oru paagupaadu theriyalaye
paamba irunthum nenju bayappada nenaikkalaye
en kattayum oru naal saayalam en kannula un mugam poguma??
naan mannukkulla, un nenappu manasukkulla.
chandhiranum sooriyanum,
suthi oru kotti maruguthey, sathiyamum pathiyamum ippo thala suthi kidakkuthey!!
[The lotus blossom at the sight of sun at a far distance
Even those long distances have not taken away the relationships
I’m not able to differentiate a snake from a log
Even after knowing it’s a snake, my heart refuses to be afraid
Even when I die someday, will your face disappear from my eyes
Even when I’m buried under the earth, your thought will always be in my mind
The sun and moon are coming together in a single line
Will the truth and reality (?) have gone haywire]

(usurae poguthey usurae poguthey uthattai nee konjam sulikkaiyila
Ooh... maaman thavikkuren madi-picha keakkuren
manasa thaadi en mani kuyile.
akkarai cheemaiyil nee irunthum aiviral theendida ninaikkuthadi
akkini palam nu therinjirunthum adikkadi naaku thudikkuthadi) - 2
[It’s kills me when I see you squeeze your lips
Oh dear, I’m begging you to give me your heart
Even though you are on the other side of the shore
My fingers yearn to touch you
My tongue yearns to taste you even when it
knows that it is a ball of fire]

Thanks, appreciate the effort. I do know Tamil quite well but sometimes Vairamuthu can be a bit too much for me to handle. Your translations are very much appreciated!

amazing lyrics... it's wonderful how different lyrics for the same music make the mood of the song so different...Gulzar has done great job, but Vairamuthus just awesome...mindblowing work...thanks for the translation - i agree, his lyrics are a bit diff to comprehend at times... i'll keep in touch with ur blog. great job.

I think the correct lyrics is "en kattiyum oru naal saayalam en kannula un mugam poguma??".
Anyway you have done a great job of getting the lyrics.
